At Vitreoretinal Institute, we are proud to have a team of highly skilled and compassionate physicians dedicated to preserving and restoring your vision. Today, we're excited to shine a spotlight on one of our exceptional specialists, Dr. Daniel Salisbury. Dr. Salisbury is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialized expertise in medical and surgical retina. His journey to becoming a leading retinal specialist is both impressive and deeply rooted in a family legacy of eye care.

A Foundation of Excellence and Family Tradition

Dr. Salisbury's passion for ophthalmology began early. Born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, he is a second-generation ophthalmologist, and remarkably, the fifth ophthalmologist in his family! This rich family history, including his father, two uncles, and a brother who are also board-certified in ophthalmology, speaks to a profound commitment to the field. He embarked on his academic path at the University of Georgia, graduating with Honors with a Bachelor's degree in Finance and a minor in Biology. He then pursued his medical degree at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. Driven by a commitment to mastery, Dr. Salisbury completed his Internal Medicine Internship and Ophthalmology Residency at Tulane University, where he was honored with the distinction of Chief Resident in his final year. Following his residency, he completed a two-year medical and surgical retina fellowship, further specializing in the complex conditions of the retina, vitreous, and macula.

Expertise in Retinal Care

Dr. Salisbury brings a comprehensive skill set to the Vitreoretinal Institute. His areas of care include, but are not limited to:

  • Retinal Detachment and Retinal Tear: Providing advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments to address these urgent conditions.

  • Diabetic Retinopathy and Diabetic Macular Edema (DME): Managing and treating the ocular complications of diabetes.

  • Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD): Offering various therapies for both wet and dry forms of this common cause of vision loss.

  • Vitreous Hemorrhage: Addressing bleeding within the vitreous gel of the eye.

  • Retinal Vascular Occlusion: Managing blockages in the retinal blood vessels.

  • Macular Hole: Performing delicate surgery to repair holes in the macula.

Dr. Salisbury is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Retina Specialists, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Board of Ophthalmology, reflecting his commitment to staying at the forefront of his field.

Beyond the Clinic

While his dedication to his patients is paramount, Dr. Salisbury also enjoys a fulfilling life outside of the office. He enjoys many outdoor activities including golf, hunting, fishing, and grilling. He is married to his wife, Samantha, a Baton Rouge native, and they are proud parents to their sons, Scotty and Walker. We are incredibly fortunate to have Dr. Daniel Salisbury as a vital part of the Vitreoretinal Institute team. His expertise, combined with his compassionate approach to patient care, exemplifies our commitment to providing the best possible outcomes for our community. If you are experiencing any retinal concerns, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Salisbury or one of our other expert physicians.
