At the Vitreoretinal Institute,"VRI" our mission is to provide our patients with access to the best medical care for their eyes. Every member of our team, from our knowledgeable physicians to our dedicated support staff, is committed to providing compassionate and cutting-edge eye care.
Adam C. Janot, MD
Lead Physician
Dr. Adam Janot M.D. is an native of Lake Charles, Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University where he graduated with honors in 2008. In 2012 he graduated at the top of his class from medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He completed residency in ophthalmology at the Medical College of Virginia in 2016. While in residency, he received awards for research, presented at national meetings and was chief resident his senior year. Upon finishing residency, he completed a two year fellowship in uveitis, medical retina, and surgical retina care at the Stanley Truhlsen Eye Institute, University of Nebraska Medical Center. While a fellow, Dr. Janot was published and presented research at regional and national meetings. Dr. Janot joined VRI in 2018 where is now the medical director.
Dr. Janot is a board certified ophthalmologist and a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a fellow of the American Society of Retina Specialists, a member of the American Medical Association, Louisiana State medical Society, and Louisiana Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Louisiana. Dr. Janot is on the medical staff of Baton Rouge General Hospital, Rapides Regional Medical Center, and Woman’s Hospital. Dr. Janot performs surgery at BRASS Surgery Center in Baton Rouge where he is on the Medical Executive Committee.
Dr. Janot and his wife Hillary live in Baton Rouge with their two daughters Libby and Caroline. They are parishioners at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. He enjoys music, movies, sports, and spending time with family and friends.

Our History
Founded in 1988 by
Dr. Stephen Breaud
Dr. Stephen Breaud graduated from Louisiana State University and LSU School of Medicine. He was a resident in Ophthalmology in the combined program at the University of Alabama/Eye Foundation in Birmingham until 1982 and completed his vitreoretinal fellowship in 1984.
Returning to Baton Rouge in 1984, Dr. Breaud dedicated his practice to the treatment and surgery of diseases of the retina and vitreous. Since then, the VRI has opened offices in McComb, Mississippi, and in Alexandria and Houma, Louisiana.
Dr. Breaud was a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He was also a member of the Vitreous Society, The East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Society, and the American Medical Association.
