Dr. Jamie Hatcher is more than just an experienced ophthalmologist—she’s a proud Baton Rouge native with deep family roots in medicine and a heart for serving her community. As a third-generation physician, Dr. Hatcher carries forward a nearly century-long tradition of caring for patients in the Baton Rouge area.
A Local with a Lifelong Passion for Medicine

Dr. Hatcher’s journey into medicine started right here at home. She graduated with honors from Louisiana State University before earning her Master of Science from Tulane University. In 2010, she received her medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, followed by an Internal Medicine internship at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. She then completed her residency in Ophthalmology at LSU Health New Orleans.
Driven to further specialize, Dr. Hatcher completed a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery through LSU, which included advanced clinical training in partnership with the Vitreoretinal Institute (VRI). She completed her fellowship in 2016.
Her Work and Commitment Today
Now a board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Hatcher focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases. She is actively involved with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. She performs surgeries at Regional Eye Surgery Center at the Lake and is credentialed at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Dr. Hatcher also helps train future specialists as an Assistant Professor in the Vitreoretinal Fellowship Program at LSU.
Beyond the Clinic
When she’s not in the operating room or mentoring residents, Dr. Hatcher enjoys spending time with her husband, David, and their two children, James and Vivienne. Their home is lively with the company of both cats and dogs, and weekends often include family time, local events, and giving back to the community she deeply values.
Whether treating patients or teaching future doctors, Dr. Hatcher brings kindness, skill, and a strong sense of purpose to everything she does.
